A thought on Palin's interview - ks

If I had to give one word to describe Sarah Palin's interview last night on foreign policy, I'd use "pedestrian." There was not a single sentence that made me think she actually understood the issues at hand other than to give them lip service using pre-planned sound bytes. There are a lot of Americans who don't know what the "Bush Doctrine" is. Fine. But we have to remember that she very well could be President of the United States. Have our standards lowered so much that Palin would be acceptable in leading our country through one of the most tumultuous times in our history? This entire campaign by McCain - including the very selection of Palin - has been designed ONLY to win the election. There has not been one thought given to what would happen when/if Palin were in the Oval Office. Her answers last night were shallow, premeditated and utterly devoid of any type of actual insight. I have great faith in American endurance and should McCain/Palin win the election I do not believe our country will implode - we've been through worse (I think). However, what bothers me the most are the underlying principles which are dictating how we, as a nation, select our leaders; the criteria by which we judge individuals seeking to represent us and to lead us. Through all the hopeful and patriotic rhetoric spewed out by the Republican party during their convention and subsequent speeches, it is they who are elevating the very cynicism, fear and even hatred that is threatening to divide this country right along the seems. And even worse, it may be working...
