An angle on Palin's speech tonight...

There's obviously a ton of speculation about Palin's speech tonight. Amidst all of it, there's really only one thing I'm going to be especially looking for. A MSNBC writer noted that with the pick of Palin as VP, the McCain campaign is re-instigating the culture war that plagued the 2004 campaign. However, in my mind, choosing a pro-life running mate doesn't inherently raise the culture war, but instead, how that candidate talks about such issues. Will Palin make abortion, guns, gays, stem-cell, etc... a center point in her speech tonight - thus drawing that "moral" line in the sand - or will she just mention them with a the type of moderate discourse that can actually be productive and, instead, focus on the real pressing issues facing this nation? This will be interesting to see because it will say a lot about the McCain campaign. Creating a culture war definitely worked for Bush, despite the fact that it created a political climate that was brutal, unproductive and negligent of the real issues (hence the fact that Bush was re-elected). Will McCain do the same? His campaign motto is "country first." Palin's speech tonight should shed some light on the authenticity of such a statement...
